Nelby data and privacy: what is verified, and what to check
For Nelby 1.2.0 build 17, Firebase and Meta have been removed from the app. Your profile and the selection of readings remain on your device. Purchases still involve Apple and RevenueCat. These are different kinds of processing, and the distinction matters when choosing whether the app meets your privacy requirements. This page describes that upcoming build, not every earlier Éclo version.
Your profile and reading history stay in local storage
The app stores the profile used to select content on your device, using Keychain with a UserDefaults fallback. This includes preferences and profile information derived from the questionnaires. Favourites, feedback on messages and reading history also have local storage. The app selects existing texts from its bundled library rather than sending your story to a live text generator.
That describes the app’s storage and selection design. It is not a promise that every feature works without a connection, or that device backups never contain app data. Read the app policy for the applicable scope and consider your own device and backup settings.
What removing Firebase and Meta changes
The new build removes the Firebase and Meta SDKs and their app-event reporting. The earlier implementation used those tools for usage and conversion events. Removing them reduces the services involved in opening the app, completing a questionnaire or browsing content.
This change applies when you install the new build. It does not alter an older installation remotely or erase information a previous version may already have sent. The verification behind this page concerns the changed implementation; it is not presented as an independent audit of all network traffic.
Purchases still use Apple and RevenueCat
Apple handles the payment. RevenueCat handles purchase records and Premium access, including restoration, and provides purchase-related reporting. RevenueCat’s official guidance describes purchase history as data used for app functionality and analytics. Removing marketing SDKs therefore does not mean that the app uses no external service or performs no purchase-related measurement.
Illustrative choice: if your requirement is to avoid Firebase and Meta, this new build addresses that requirement. If your requirement is that no third party process any app-related information, Nelby does not meet it. An ordinary paper exercise is a more suitable option for that stricter requirement.
Deleting the profile is different from deleting every external record
The app’s deletion flow clears local profile and related app data. It should not be interpreted as an automatic cancellation of an Apple subscription or deletion of every record held by a purchase provider. Purchase restoration and data deletion serve different purposes.
For a request concerning external or historical data, contact info@yann-lephay.com and specify the category involved. You can ask about a prior version, purchase records or support correspondence without sending your questionnaire answers. The app policy explains the relevant process; this guide does not promise a blanket deletion deadline.
Check what other people can see on your screen
A widget or notification preview can display a selected message. A theme may feel personal even when it includes neither your name nor a full profile. Removing a measurement SDK does not change who can see the phone on your desk.
Look at the actual preview before keeping it enabled. A personal phone, a shared workspace and a screen often visible to others can call for different settings. You can choose a simpler display without changing what you think of the underlying reading.
Use the policy for the version you are considering
The app privacy policy linked below covers the new Nelby version. The website has a separate privacy notice for visits, hosting and contact. The older Éclo policy is not the description to rely on for build 17, and installing a new version does not rewrite the history of an older one.
Before deciding, name your requirement precisely: local profile storage, no Firebase or Meta, acceptable purchase processing, or discreet previews. Check that requirement rather than seeking a general promise that the product is “private.” If an important detail is unclear, ask before entering unnecessary information.

Nelby fits readers who want profile-informed reading stored on their device with the new build’s simpler service setup. Apple and RevenueCat remain part of purchasing and access. Choose paper if your requirement is to involve no external app service.
